2. About These Terms

These Terms & Conditions explain how we sell products to you, how orders are formed, how delivery and returns work, and what happens if there is a problem.

By using our website and/or placing an order, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.

Nothing in these terms removes or reduces any rights you have under applicable consumer law.

3. Who We Sell To

We currently sell to customers in the following countries:

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • France
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Netherlands
  • Poland
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • United Kingdom

If we do not currently ship to your location, you will not be able to complete checkout for that destination.

We may change the countries we serve from time to time.

4. Product Information

We aim to describe and display all Hippo Mat products as accurately as possible.

Because screens and devices display colours differently, slight differences in on-screen appearance may occur.

Product photography, illustrations, and descriptions are provided to give a fair representation of the product. Minor presentational differences that do not affect the nature or quality of the product may occur.

All dimensions, features, care details, and product information shown on our website should be read alongside any information shown at checkout or included with your order.

5. Placing an Order

When you place an order through our website, you are making an offer to buy the product(s) in your basket.

Your order is not accepted until we send you an order acceptance or dispatch confirmation email, or otherwise confirm that we have accepted your order.

We may be unable to accept an order for reasons including, for example:

  • the item is unavailable

  • we cannot authorise payment

  • pricing or product information was incorrect

  • there appears to be an error on the website

  • delivery to your destination is not available

If we cannot accept your order, we will let you know and refund any payment already taken.

6. Prices, Currency and Payment

Unless stated otherwise, prices on our website are shown in GBP (£).

Delivery charges, taxes, and any other applicable charges will be shown at checkout before you complete your purchase.

Payment must be received in full before your order is dispatched.

We may change prices at any time, but price changes will not affect orders that have already been accepted.

7. Taxes, VAT, Customs and Import Charges

For orders delivered to EU countries, taxes and import treatment depend on how your order is processed and the order value.

For eligible EU orders, applicable VAT will be collected at checkout. For qualifying consignments, customers should not normally be charged import VAT again on delivery, although customs processes and exceptions outside our control may occasionally apply.

8. Availability

All products are subject to availability.

We may limit quantities per order where reasonably necessary.

If an item becomes unavailable after you place an order but before acceptance or dispatch, we will contact you and refund any payment taken for that item.

9. Delivery

We aim to dispatch and deliver orders within the estimated times shown on our website, at checkout, or in your order confirmation.

Delivery times are estimates only and are not guaranteed unless we expressly say otherwise.

Delays can happen for reasons outside our control, including courier disruption, customs checks, weather events, peak demand periods, and supplier delays.

We are not responsible for delays caused by incorrect delivery information entered by the customer.

It is your responsibility to ensure that the delivery address, contact details, and any special delivery information are correct before completing your order.

10. Pre-Orders

Some Hippo Mat products may be offered on a pre-order basis.

A pre-order means the product is not yet ready for immediate dispatch and will be shipped at a later date.

Any pre-order date shown on our website is an estimate unless we clearly state that it is guaranteed.

We will aim to keep customers informed if there is a material delay to a pre-order item.

If your order contains both pre-order and in-stock items, we may either:

  • dispatch them together when the pre-order item is ready, or

  • split the shipment if we choose to do so

Where split shipping is available, this will be stated at checkout or in our delivery information.

11. Risk and Ownership

Ownership of the goods passes to you once we have received payment in full.

Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery.

If a parcel appears damaged on arrival, please notify us as soon as reasonably possible and, where possible, retain the packaging and take photos to help us investigate.

12. Your Right to Cancel

If you are buying as a consumer, you will usually have the right to cancel your order within 14 days of receiving the goods, unless an exception applies under applicable law. In UK distance sales, businesses must clearly tell customers about this right, and if they do not, the cancellation period can be extended. Similar 14-day online withdrawal rights apply across the EU.

To exercise your right to cancel, please contact us at:
hello@hippomat.uk

You should send the goods back without undue delay and, in any event, within 14 days of telling us you wish to cancel.

Unless the item is faulty, damaged, incorrect, or not as described, return postage costs are your responsibility unless we state otherwise. Under UK guidance, that allocation should be made clear in advance.

We will refund you using the original payment method, subject to any deduction permitted by law if the item has been handled more than necessary to establish its nature, characteristics, and functioning.

13. Returns and Refunds

If you would like to return an order, please contact us first so we can guide you through the process.

Returned goods should be sent back in suitable packaging.

Refunds will be made to the original payment method.

Where the return is due to a change of mind, we may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back or evidence of return, where permitted by law.

Nothing in this section affects your legal rights if goods are faulty, damaged, or not as described.

14. Faulty, Damaged, or Incorrect Items

If your order arrives faulty, damaged, or incorrect, please contact us as soon as possible with your order number and, where possible, photographs of the issue.

If goods do not meet applicable legal standards, you are entitled to the remedies provided by law. In the UK, consumer goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described, and liability for those core statutory rights cannot be excluded.

We may ask for reasonable information to help assess the issue before offering a repair, replacement, refund, or other appropriate remedy.

15. Promotional Codes

We may offer promotional or discount codes from time to time.

Unless we expressly state otherwise:

  • only one promotional code may be used per order

  • promotional codes cannot be applied retrospectively

  • promotional codes have no cash value

  • promotional codes may have an expiry date

  • promotional codes may be limited to selected products, categories, order values, or customers

  • we may withdraw, suspend, or refuse a promotional code where we reasonably believe it has been misused, shared improperly, or applied in breach of its terms

If a promotional code was applied in error, we reserve the right to cancel the affected order before dispatch and refund any payment made.

16. Gift Purchases

Hippo Mat products are often purchased as gifts.

If you are buying for someone else, please make sure all delivery details are correct before placing your order.

Unless we expressly offer a gift service, orders will be sent using our standard packaging and dispatch process.

Refunds for returned gift purchases will normally be made to the original payment method used for the purchase.

If you would like us to avoid including pricing information inside the parcel, this should be handled in line with our current fulfilment process and stated clearly on the site only if that service is actually offered.

17. Limited Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses

From time to time, we may offer limited edition products, launch offers, or pre-order bonuses.

These may include, for example:

  • free bonus items

  • limited edition extras

  • promotional discounts

  • recognition features such as placement on a community or “Hall of Fame” page

Unless stated otherwise:

  • such offers are available only while stocks, capacity, or promotional allocation lasts

  • eligibility is determined by the terms shown on the relevant product page or promotion

  • bonuses are not exchangeable for cash

  • we may substitute a bonus item with an item of equal or greater value if this becomes reasonably necessary

  • bonus items may be dispatched with the main order or separately

  • if an order qualifying for a bonus is cancelled or refunded, the bonus entitlement may also be cancelled

  • where a returned order included a bonus item, we may require the bonus to be returned as well, or deduct its fair value from any refund where permitted by law

18. Product Use and Care

Please follow any care or usage guidance shown on the product page, packaging, or accompanying materials.

Improper use, misuse, abnormal wear, accidental damage, or failure to follow reasonable care instructions may affect eligibility for certain voluntary returns or goodwill remedies. This does not affect your statutory rights.

19. Safety and Supervision

Hippo Mats are designed for children’s play, subject to any age guidance shown on the product page, packaging, or accompanying materials.

Children should be supervised where appropriate.

You are responsible for checking that any toys or accessories used with the mat are suitable for the child using them.

20. Intellectual Property

All content on the Hippo Mat website, including but not limited to logos, branding, illustrations, artwork, text, product concepts, graphics, page design, and other creative material, is owned by Hippo Mat or used under licence or permission.

You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, adapt, republish, sell, or otherwise use any part of our website or content without our prior written permission.

21. Website Use

You agree not to misuse our website, attempt unauthorised access, introduce malicious code, interfere with functionality, or use the site in any unlawful or fraudulent way.

We may suspend, restrict, or terminate access where reasonably necessary to protect our website, customers, or business.

22. Privacy and Cookies

Your use of our website is also governed by our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.

Please read:

23. Liability

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.

This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and any consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded or restricted.

Subject to that, we are responsible for losses that are a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or our failure to use reasonable care and skill, but we are not responsible for losses that are not foreseeable or for business losses where you are purchasing as a consumer.

In both UK and EU consumer law, unfair standard terms are not enforceable against consumers, so this section should stay reasonable and balanced rather than overreaching.

24. Country-Specific Consumer Rights

If you are a consumer in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom, you may have mandatory rights under the consumer laws of your country of residence.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to remove any mandatory consumer protections that apply to you under applicable law.

25. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time.

Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.

The version in force at the time you place your order will apply to that order.

26. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales, except that if you are a consumer resident in another country where mandatory consumer protections apply, you will continue to benefit from those mandatory protections.
